Initiatives
At Veterans United Home Loans, our success is largely defined by the significant, lasting impact we have on our community. Our core values involve a passionate approach to enhancing lives and delivering results, which applies just as much to our philanthropic involvement as it does to our business strategy. In our continuing effort to create real change for the better, we partner with reputable organizations and participate in various charity events that reflect our attitude toward a safer, cleaner, healthier and more educated community.
Since the company's inception, Veterans United Home Loans, the nation's leading dedicated VA lender, and its employees have made giving back a priority. In 2010 alone, Veterans United Home Loans and its employees donated more than $550,000 to military organizations and charitable causes across the country, including the largest single donation from a private company in the history of the Heart of Missouri United Way.

Veterans United with the Heart of Missouri United Way
In 2010, Veterans United Home Loans and its employees donated more than $450,000 to the Heart of Missouri United Way. This donation turned out to be the largest single donation from a private company in the nonprofit's history. In 2012, Veterans United pledged to continue supporting the local nonprofit with an additional $300,000 donation.
Veterans United Teams with Operation Homefront
Operation Homefront currently provides services to military families across the nation, with 25 chapters serving 30 states. Through generous, widespread public support and a collaborative team of exception staff, they aspire to become the provider of choice for emergency financial assistance as well as other aid to the families of our service members and wounded warriors.
As part of its new national partnership with Operation Homefront, Veterans United will donate $60,000 to support three core programs for the nonprofit: the Back to School Brigade, which distributes backpacks filled with school supplies; the Holiday Toy Drive, which distributes toys to children of financially distressed military families; and the Military Child of the Year Program, an award that recognizes the service and sacrifices of our nation's youngest heroes.
Donation to the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans' Hospital
This year, Veterans United donated $20,000 to the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans' Hospital. The donated funds received by Truman VA are used to supplement annual budget appropriations for activities such as the array of programs for homeless Veterans, a social work fund for emergency transportation needs and chaplain's program activities.
"We are grateful for the extreme generosity of our friends from Veterans United," says Sallie Houser- Hanfelder, Truman VA director. "This gift will allow us to help a lot of Veterans that we serve and is nearly half of what we normally receive in an entire year."
Veterans United and The Mission Continues
The Mission Continues is a national nonprofit founded in 2007 by former Navy SEAL Eric Greitens. The St. Louis based organization challenges post Sept. 11, 2001 veterans to rebuild a sense of purpose through community service.
The nonprofit's mission is fueled by a deep belief that our veterans are assets who are poised to become the next greatest generation. Veterans United continues to support The Mission Continues by providing a $10,000 donation as a commitment to support veterans who strive to serve their country beyond their military career.
Veterans United and Paralyzed Veterans of America
At Veterans United, we understand and acknowledge the life-changing impact of serious service-related injuries. That's why we donated $20,000 to Paralyzed Veterans of America. This donation was given in order to give paralyzed athletes the opportunity to enjoy adaptive sports. Paralyzed Veterans of America also coordinates educational efforts focused on improving health issues related to spinal cord injury and paralysis.
Welcome Home, Inc.
Welcome Home, Inc. is a local nonprofit community-based program located in Columbia, MO that works to help homeless veterans return to society as productive, self-supporting citizens. The home provides emergency food, shelter, transportation, and clothing to veterans of the United States military who reside in Mid-Missouri.
Beyond that, they also focus on three long-term goals; residential stability, increased work skills and income, and greater self-determination of participants.
"We really care about the veterans who reside in our home, and will do whatever we can to keep them safe, healthy, and positive," Melissa Action, Welcome Home Associate Director told the audience.
Veterans United listened, and has donated over $10,000 to the deserving organization and promises to continue supporting their mission well into the future.
