The recruiter can contact your wife, because she will need to put you into the DEERs system, at least that is the only way to do it without power of attorney. Once you are in DEERS you should be able to get your ID without a power of attorney.

My wife is in basic training and was a "quick" ship. I got the deers and tricare forum in the mail. I called fort Sam Houston's DEERS office and told them I have my 1172 forum and I need to get my ID. I was told I need a power of attorney in order to get my ID. I called her recruiter and he told me all I needed was my birth certificate, social security card, marriage certificate, and my ID. I called the deers office again and told her what the recruiter said and she still said the same thing as before "you need a power of attorney" ugh it's so confusing can someone please help.

I'm excited to discover this site. I wanted to thank you for your time due to this wonderful read!! I definitely really liked every bit of it and i also have you bookmarked to look at new stuff in your web site. I wanted to tell you, I bookmarked I’m a New Military Spouse, Now What? at Digg so my friends can read it as well. May I also share a tip. Getting into Medical school can be very tough. I find it most effective to talk with a specialist. Their chiropractors can make a huge big difference into you getting into a pain free lower back or not. Seek a naked male to be sure your headaches and lhandsome men are a thing of the past. Have a great weekend.

I have a question my husband is in the Army and he enrolled me in deers and now I have to get my military id but I haven't changed my last name yet. Should I change my name before I get the ID or does it really matter??

Get married when you want to get married and when you are ready to get married. Do not get married for the benefits or because you feel like you need the security. I would wait if you can wait but I understand the benefits of marriage when you are in the military are tempting. Just realize that it is harder to deal with divorce later (for rushing into something you may not be ready for) than it may be to deal for 6 months while your fiancee is away at basic training... Plus you KNOW that if you make it through some of these rougher times you will have a head start on making it together in marriage!
