Veterans United Donates $1 Million to End Veteran Homelessness

Right now in Mid-Missouri, the only homeless shelter for Veterans has to turn away about 150 Veterans a year because it has no space to house them.

Veterans United Home Loans announced a $1 million donation to Welcome Home, a Community for Veterans to build on-site apartments as part of a new campus for Veterans in Columbia, Mo. The announcement of the private gift was made by Veterans United employees, and took place at the site of the future complex, which will be the first of its kind in mid-Missouri focusing solely on Veterans. Statewide, local and military officials participated in the announcement.

The gift will help fund Patriot Place, the 25 permanent apartments. Each apartment will have one bedroom, bathroom and fully functional kitchen, with utilities included in the rent. The building will also house laundry facilities, a fitness room, computer lab and office and programing spaces.
