More About United Through Reading and Our Partnership

For over 30 years, United Through Reading (UTR) has helped unite military families facing physical separation by facilitating the bonding experience of storytime. UTR’s founder was a reading specialist and the wife of a Navy flight surgeon who deployed to Vietnam, only to return home to a daughter who did not know him. Knowing the connection reading aloud with a child could create, a powerful concept was born. Deployment after deployment, more than two million military parents, children, and other family members have sustained bonds and fostered literacy by sharing stories across even the greatest distances.

Veterans United employees have been longtime proponents of UTR, both as participants in the program and with contributions from the Veterans United Foundation. We are excited to invite you to join us in supporting military families through UTR by selecting a book to be donated by Veterans United in your honor. For more information on UTR and additional ways you can get involved, visit unitedthroughreading.org and sign up for their newsletter.
