Michael Araujo spent a year in the hospital after an ambush and IED attack left him severely wounded. At just 19, the Purple Heart recipient made the difficult decision to have his left leg amputated.
The Army veteran had to learn to walk again. He and his family also needed to regain their financial balance. High rent was taking a toll on their bank account, and the Araujos were eager to find a home of their own.
Michael's disability also meant the family had unique needs for potential properties. Veterans United loan specialist Chris Thornton, NMLS #45514, connected Michael to a local real estate agent through Veterans United Realty, our national network of agents who work routinely with military homebuyers and VA loans.
The agent, Danielle Sharp, was able to help Michael find the perfect accessible property, complete with a fenced-in backyard and a pool.
Chris and the team at Veterans United walked the family through the financing process.
"It’s everything we wanted," Michael said. "I own my home thanks to Veterans United."
