Coast Guard Petty Officer Becomes First-Time Buyer

Coast Guard Petty Officer First Class Melissa Polson expected the homebuying journey to be a rough road.

"Just hearing what friends and family members had gone through, I thought it was going to be an insurmountable goal," Melissa said.

Then she found Veterans United.

"Working with Veterans United, I never had to worry about whether the process was moving forward," she said. "It felt like I had a team working behind me. The process was seamless."

Though still on active duty, Melissa wanted to plant roots in her Connecticut community. She also sought to create a stable foundation for her two young children. She utilized her hard-earned VA loan benefits to become a first-time homebuyer.

"Homeownership gives you such a firm foundation and such a much stronger financial picture overall," Melissa said. "It's definitely worth doing, especially if the process can be as simple as it was when I bought this house."
