Veterans United Employee Michael Pitts

Michael Pitts

I've weathered the ups and downs of mortgage industry since 2002 when I graduated from the University of Missouri. I consider my career as a loan officer my opportunity to give back. Every day I find financing for families who want to realize the dream of owning a home. Working for Veterans United since 2011 has allowed me to serve our veterans by doing what I do best, and thankfully, support my family as well. My wife and I have two daughters and live in Columbia, MO. I spend my free time taking in sports of all types and finding every opportunity to be outside golfing, hiking, camping, or even just exploring the woods behind our house with our girls.

I will use local veteran mortgage business owners in the future. The rates and fees associated with VU were high and do not feel like we were a customer and more like another number in a long line of priority that caused unnecessary delays. In addition our closing documents had several flaws.

Response from Veterans United

Hi Brandon,
Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback. I’m really sorry that your experience left you feeling like just another number. That’s not how we want anyone to feel, and I understand how frustrating delays, higher costs, and document errors can be, especially so close to closing.

We work hard to provide clear communication and a smooth process, so it’s disappointing to hear that we missed the mark with timing and accuracy on your documents. Your concerns about rates and fees are also valid. Those conversations should always feel transparent and respectful, and I’m sorry if that wasn’t your experience.

I’d appreciate the chance to look into what happened and better understand where things broke down. If you’re open to it, our Client Advocate team can review your loan and address your concerns directly. You can reach us at 1-800-212-5200 or ClientAdvocate@vu.com. We’re available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. CST, and messages outside those hours are typically returned the next business day.

Sincerely,
Claire S., Client Relations Manager

Veterans United made the difficult process of homebuying not so difficult. My Loan Team stayed in contact throughout. When it came time for closing, I was advised what I would need in closing costs but instead, I was the one paid at closing.

This is my second experience with Veteran's United. I initially financed with them, and when refinancing became advisable in my situation I returned to them after carefully reviewing my options. I found them to be an excellent resource in navigating unfamiliar subjects.

This is the 2nd time we have used Veterans United to purchase a home under the VA home loan program. Just like the 1st time, they were able to get us approved while other National competitors told us no. Our loan officer did an outstanding job with follow-ups and keeping us informed. He and his team led us on every step of the way. Veterans United with make you home buying journey a pleasant one.
