I felt like there were a lot of different people I got handed off to. Never with just a few people. I never really talked to my loan officer during the process. Also, there was a lot of phone tag back and forth.
They could greatly improve by having less paperwork and keeping all parties informed with information and paperwork being sent out.
The closeing cost feed are out of this world almost 10,000 dollars to close a house. I could have use a normal bank and got it costed for half that price. I'm sure being over sea and try to close a house is not the easiest but the va could have there stuff better. The va is to help military members and be cheaper then other banks well that at lease what I though.
It took over six months from the time I was approved until the time I closed. I would always be given a list of things to complete, and was told when I was done with them I would be able to close, but once they were done I would just be given more to do. It took so long to complete your process, that the contract between the seller and myself expired twice. After that contract was drawn up, you changed my interest rate, not for the better. Even after we were given the clear to close there were still problems. We actually closed and after we signed all the paperwork and were done, you called and said you weren't releasing the funds because there was more paperwork that was needed. Getting a mortgage through your company was more painful than getting all of your teeth pulled.
Overall I was very happy with my experience. My loan office was Gerrit Hane, but on a few occasions I recieved proactive e-mails and phone calls from others at VUHL which became a little confusing. I wasn't sure who I shoudl have been getting back to. Gerrit cleared up the confusion for me.At another point, I was contacted directly by a third party verification company that wanted to verify my finances and my payment history. I'm not sure if Gerrit was informed or not, but the third party company set up a con-call with myself and my bank where the bank had to confirm very personal information while the third party was listening. It made me very neurvous. Again, I contacted Gerrit to make sure it was legitamate, but I feel that could have been handled better. The third-party company was oviously a foriegn person so I was very uncomfortable going over personal financial information on the phone.
Reduce the amount of hoops people have to jump through to get their loan.
Send or request needed paperwork to be signed more efficiently. Being our first home buying experience, it felt like we, as the buyer, had to be the "middle" person too much between VUHL and the builder. The wrong Mortgage Insurance company was selected on our closing paperwork after I had sent in a quote from the Insurance company I wanted selected. We ended up having to pay a higher interest rate due to the length of time for the sewer tap to be completed. While I understand this was on the township, after the sewer tap was approved, I feel like VUHL could have "pushed" for a 60 day completion from the builder as we only missed locking in the lower interest rate by a few days.
