The process was really easy and straight-forward all the way through the closing process. After we had closed, I called to set up automatic payments, and VU had already sold the rights to my mortgage to Wells Fargo, preventing me from setting up aut0-draft for "two to four weeks" plus the Wells Fargo paperwork process. For service members with high optempo, waiting up to 4 weeks without being able to set up automatic payments adds to an already strenuous process. It would have been much better if VU had asked me to set up auto-draft prior to selling the rights to my loan.

Explain the reasons why it would be more beneficial to use a real estate agent through VA. I was pressed on time, so I simply brushed off the suggestion. In the process of moving we had to open utilities in our name, which lead to a credit check, which delayed closing. Also, I borrowed money from a family member to make sure I had enough for the move and closing. This also delayed the closing. It would be nice if questions were asked in regards to these decisions prior to completion. This would have allowed us more time to prepare the proper paperwork and bank statements.
