For the most part our experience was great. Towards closing, there were some extreme last minute requests and we failed to close on time (44 days). We were told this was due to the underwriters. We were extremely happy with our realtors, Darlene Lutz was extremely helpful and accommodating. The VU team did make amends for the missed closing by giving a lender credit of $697.00. This was much appreciated. We look forward to our bonus for sticking with the realtors.
There was no communication between the loan officer and myself. rarely answered phone messages, at took a very long time to answer any e-mails. The realtor and the seller had the same experience. My loan officer had me do my own work on several occasions. I told him that he should be giving me some money back for doing that, since timelines were not met causing a hardship on the closing. I had expressed my concerns with the loan officers team leaders boss, who seemed to understand what we were going through.

I would have rated the loan experience and loan officer a 10 until the last week. There were some things that were uncontrollable or maybe there were. I don't know. What I do know is that I got an estimate of my closing costs the day before I closed which was $4,000 higher than estimated. They were worked down to only $2,500 over which is nice, but still a substantial amount of money. Also, some things changed when closing costs shifted from seller to me. The appraisal fee was paid for by me, when I was told that Veteran's United paid for it. If this was the case these changes should be explained when changes are made. Maybe this is the realtors job. Regardless these changes were not explained and without a clear estimate were not able to be seen by me. This can not continue to happen because most people would probably not have taken it the way I did and may have walked away. Besides that it was great. Collin got me a very low rate and was very professional throughout. If not for the last week of business it would have been a flawless evolution.
When you tell the families you'll will be in the office at certain times be in the office. It is hard enough for military personnel to find time to call, but then the person is not in office when we were told to call at that time is..... frustrating.
We had several issues during the loan process. First and for most our l0an officer did not do his job and my wife and to seek out information for him to include talking to the title company. He said they had been calling and emailing title company with no response. He needed an updated title. My wife went to the title office and got the information and was told VU had not requested this information until the day before.2nd he did a terrible job communicating with us. We had to constantly call him to get updates during the loan process. Lastly, the day before closing we get an email from him saying that VU didnt verify our 2012 tax information and we would not be able to close which would have made us homeless. In his email he stated that WE should contact the IRS and if were lucky we could close on schedule. He was very unprofessional and represents your company poorly. If it wasn't for our Congressman here in Nebraska calling your company we would have never closed on this home loan.
