I wanted to take some time here to express my thoughts and feelings regarding our home buying experience with Veterans United.
Who would have imagined that at 65/59 we would be buying our first home! Having spent most of my life on the road relocating from one disaster hot spot to another (think Alaska pipeline, Hurricane Charley in FL, Hurricane Katrina in MS, projects in 23 different states actually) as a Field Engineer/Surveyor, and Rhonda as a construction superintendent, we never allowed ourselves the dream of settling in one place long enough to buy a home. Until now.
Exploring home listings on all the myriad of sites from realtors and brokers and loan companies can be mind-numbing and frankly, kind of daunting, until I came across Veterans United and man, what a difference!
From day one of interacting with Matt Lucas and Becca Crossgrove there has been nothing but positivity. Veterans United is fortunate to have such professional and caring people on board. And whoever designed and implemented the interactivity of the website deserves a medal! Yes, there are a lot of forms to fill out and task to complete but everything is clearly spelled out. Any questions we had were answered promptly and clearly. Later in the process Nick Whitworth was instrumental in guiding us through the final phases. Our 2 dogs and 2 cats (all rescues) have adopted our Concierge Shelby Slate Griggs as their aunt.

Overall it was a great experience because of the team I got the pleasure of having during this process. They were all fantastic and did their best to make my life easier. However, I feel like the underwriters were behind the bellcurve the whole process. There should be a bridge developed in conversation between the teams and the underwriters. I feel like that solidly missed the mark for me. I almost didn’t close on time because the underwriters didn’t communicate with the team. But! It was all fixed and I still got to close the day that we were intending to.

I think you have done a great job of putting people in the right places to advise new home buyers. Putting a team together that focuses on a specific piece is a great idea and worked really well for me. I am so grateful for the team I was given. Shantel and her team are the best I highly recommend working with them.
We looked at a few different loan providers, a few local in the area recommended by family and friends, as well as a few big names. While the other loan officers at the big brands were forthright in answering questions, both the closing costs and interest rates were higher than Veterans United conventional loan rates and closing costs. Moreover, the local banks were a little too sluggish in getting back to us. It was like they didn't want our business. So we ended up going with Corey at Veterans United simply because we were in touch so much while we were shopping around, and the figures he quoted were the best we had come across.Corey, our loan officer, and Alex, the loan coordinator, and Haley, the concierge, as well as Cody, the insurance coordinator were all patient and knowledgeable in their respective areas.If we had questions, they had answers.
They were really on the ball and helped us lock in a decent interest rate, without digging into any of the capital allocated for our down payment.I would totally recommend Veterans United, even for conventional loans. Just a word of caution, if you do go with a conventional loan instead of a VA loan, make sure everyone you talk to understands that your loan is a conventional one and not a VA loan. It is easy for listing agents, sellers, insurers, and other vendors to see the word "Veterans" and just assume it is a VA loan.Based on my overall experience working with everyone, I would recommend Veterans United and look forward to being able to work with this team again in the future.
This was a fast process. My Team of agents were fantastic! I felt confident, blessed and well guided throughout this entire process. If I had questions , they were answered by phone or text within moments. I was never left suspended or waiting. This was truly the best experience in buying a home. I've heard from others about their experiences and I've let them know, if they are veterans, or current military, to use Veterans United. It's the only way to go. I'm shouting from the rooftops and sharing my experiences but only with those who qualify because of the specific requirements for the program. I am sharing the good will. This is a great program and I feel blessed that I was able to partake within its parameters. I had a GREAT TEAM of people who kept me informed the entire way. Thank you from my whole heart. Although my husband isn't here on this plane, he will still be sharing our new home with me by another. I am so grateful words cannot express my feelings of happiness. Thank you!
