On this purchase with Veterans United, we hit some major roadblocks. If we had been in a more competitive market during peak buying season, it could very well have cost us the deal. The appraiser was absolutely ridiculous. Her report called for around $5,000 in repairs which were entirely unnecessary, weren't safety issues, and had no basis in any building codes. I completed the repairs myself so the seller wouldn't tell us to go pound sand. The underwriters were just as bad. After over two months from a signed purchase agreement to closing, they dropped the ball two days before closing telling us we needed verification of occupancy requirements for a VA IRRRL. Anyone capable of reading the VA's guidelines for IRRRLs will tell you there are no occupancy requirements. How this escaped them I do not know. Veterans United would be doing a major dis-service to a veteran buyer in a market like California where sellers hold all the cards. The housing shortage is bad enough across most of the country that the decision to go with Veterans United could cost someone the opportunity for their dream home. I hope you guys can fix these issues.

Overall I am extremely satisfied with VU with the team I worked with and the effort of each one!!
My biggest issue was the need for all the superfluous documentation needed to get pre-approved. Especially if that documentation needs to come from military leadership that doesn't give a damn about you because I am getting out. Using the chain of leadership to communicate anything is impossible without jumping that said chain and hurting egos. Honestly the worst part is that I needed a leave statement and a statement from the company that singed up for a government program that said they wouldn't frie me after the program. The whole point of the program is to secure stable permanent employment. This delayed my closing causing the sellers and myself significant stress during the holidays.
Me saying that Alex, Johnathan, and Allie were amazing is an understatement. I don’t think me saying that they are a top notch team and are probably the pinnacle of the group would be surprising. Thank you team for the assist in making this process seamless and simple.

This is my third home home to purchase, but only my second using an agent. My first home purchase was in 1979, and everything was completed within two weeks. I was in my new home, and lived there for 42 years. My second home was in 2020, and I used the sellers agent to help me with my purchase. She was great and very fair with both her clients and us. We did not have all the "TO DO'S" list that we had today. This experience was eye opening since we had to obtain records we never thought about getting. We now have a copy of everything that was requested, and if needed in the future, I will be better prepared. Veterans United was very pleasant to work with.
