Working with Veterans United was such a huge blessing! I got introduced to Ryan back in May when initially trying to pre-approve for a home. I was in the process of moving back home due to the pandemic so I was jobless and without a steady income. The only income I had was disability and at the time it wasn’t enough to qualify. Ryan told me what I needed to qualify and within weeks (nothing but God!) I was at 100% disability. This and only this allowed me to pre-qualify. Ryan was with me the whole time. He told me about my credit and what to do to maintain the score. His team of people was great and held my hand. Sidebar: This is my first home and though it’s a blessing to receive disability, I had to go through some things to be awarded it. Nevertheless, a furloughed job, living with my parents, and collecting unemployment for close to a year was all worth the wait of walking into a newly built home. Thank you, Ryan and your awesome team for giving me a place of refuge and peace.

We worked with Veterans United for several months, starting back in spring 2025, originally planning a move in early 2026. Our timeline accelerated, and their team handled it exceptionally well. One of the biggest challenges was selling our Alaska home, which had a 2.5% VA loan through Veterans United. Their team guided us through the loan assumption process, allowing another veteran to assume the loan. This not only helped the buyer, but it allowed us to capture a premium on our home and move forward smoothly. The coordination was excellent — we closed on our Alaska home and then closed on our new home in Washington just two days later. That kind of timing doesn’t happen without a strong, experienced lender behind the scenes. Our loan officer, Katie Smith, was professional, responsive, and on top of every detail throughout the process. She made a complex transaction feel manageable and kept everything moving. If you’re a veteran navigating a sale, a VA loan assumption, or a cross-state move, Veterans United truly understands how to make the VA system work for you. Highly recommend.

Had a great experience with our home buying team, they kept us on track and helped us every step of the way! We knew the home buying experience could be daunting but they answered every question and provided us with everything we needed to accomplish our goal. It was a relief to know we had a team to help us every step of the process.

I was nervous to initially check it out, there was always an one excuse or another not to do it. My credit is not the very best but it is decent and it really has to be. Don't expect them to be able to accomplish a un realistic home loan. Be honest with Veterans United and the team assigned to you but more importantly be honest with yourself. Don't expect miracles, know your budget, be prepared, be proactive and most importantly be patient and respond to their request immediately. It's your loan after-all even though you'll feel like the team is only working on your loan, keep in mind they are also working on others and their loans but their response to your concerns are still their highest priority. Even by email which in some cases are at odd late / early morning hours. Just shows you they are definitely working on your behalf to give you their very best effort to make your loan happen. If your expectations are realistic and your honestly expecting a good experience you'll be satisfied. Unless your assigned Loan specialist team is Logan and his team then good won't be "good enough" of a rating you'll actually recieve an excellent experience. Also would like to say to you all that Logan's team includes a beautiful coordinator/specialist named Taylor working on your loan and she is a Rockstar, I give Taylor 100 stars as she is fantastic in all areas as well. If I had to do it again I'd request and not quit requesting for Logan and Taylor to be assigned to accomplish my loan package that's how great they are.
Logan and team made me the happiest new home owner i could be and like I stated above they are what makes the Veterans United Home Loan experience stand out among the rest.

Sheldon Turek and Danielle Hays did get me to closing. Thats the only good thing. We closed a week late which cost me almost over 5k in debts. Danielle told me to forward the costs to see if they can help. Forward the receipts and get told it will delay closing even longer. The beginning was Sheldon making promises and talking big game which later seemed didnt hold together until i called a million times to try and get ahold of him. Still seems shaky at best. My loan coordinator changed atleast 3 times. They only coordinate via email which is awful and kept me guessing what i need to do. The app and the to dos sometimes are not clear. If I need to do something I expect the people trying to get my business reaching out to me via phone call to make sure i provide the necessary things to close on time.4th time buying a house and by far this was the hardest. If you need to reach them Goodluck, you're gonna get passed around.Got them to call me like a requested when I made threats to report them to the head of the VA to blacklist their company.Do not recommend va united.

Response from Veterans United

Hi Christopher,

I’m really sorry to hear how frustrating this experience was, especially given that this wasn’t your first time buying a home. Closing late and feeling left in the dark can create a lot of stress, and I understand why the added costs and communication challenges left you disappointed.

While I’m glad to hear Sheldon and Danielle helped get you to the finish line, it’s clear we missed the mark when it came to consistency, clarity, and being easy to reach. Changing loan coordinators, relying mostly on email, and unclear next steps can make an already complex process feel even harder than it should. That’s not the experience we want for anyone.

I’d really like the chance to look into what happened with your loan and better understand the delays and communication gaps you described. If you’re open to it, you can reach our Client Advocate team at 1-800-212-5200 or ClientAdvocate@vu.com. We’re available Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central Time, and messages outside those hours are typically returned the next business day.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. It helps us understand where we need to do better.

Sincerely,
Claire S., Client Relations Manager

I had Veterans United a few years ago, due to moving, I have to change lenders; however, I have been waiting for the interest to change to move back to Veterans United. That is how much I think about the people who work for this company. I am so glad to be back.

With Veterans United the closing cost were higher. There were no grants offered.I really feel like I got taken advantaged of and ripped off. There were people that were part of the team that were not needed and I never utilized. So they got part of the closing cost.I also plan on posting on social media about how Veterans United took advantage of me.
I'll make sure to share with active Military, Veterans, Freemasonions, the Fraternal Order of Police, and whoever else will listen.

Response from Veterans United

Hi Eric,
I’m really sorry to read how this experience left you feeling taken advantage of. That’s incredibly upsetting, and I understand why higher closing costs, especially without grant options, would feel discouraging and unfair. I also hear your frustration around feeling like there were people involved who didn’t add value or support for you.

I want to be clear that taking advantage of anyone is never our intention, and I’m sorry that’s how this came across. Closing costs and available assistance can vary based on a number of factors, and we should always do a better job explaining what applies and why, so nothing feels unexpected or unnecessary.

Your feedback matters, and I’d truly like the chance to understand what happened and help address your concerns directly. Our Client Advocate team is here to listen and review this with you. You can reach them at 1-800-212-5200 or ClientAdvocate@vu.com, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. CST. Messages outside those hours are typically returned the next business day.

Sincerely,
Claire S., Client Relations Manager
