Overall experience was fantastic! There was a small issue of communication that can improve with staff (not Brandon), but I also tend to get impatient when stressed, they did get back to me explaining the issues/questions I had. Stressful process and VA United made it pretty seamless and easy

Veterans United made it easy to get into the house we wanted.

Veterans United is a good company in concept. I have closed on 4 homes. Each time my net worth and credit has grown significantly. This time I had the best credit I have had in my life and a very strong buyer. I say this because this was the most invasive and disorganized home loan process of all times I have closed. I am currently deployed and was up front about that and asked if this process was feasible from a distance. I was assured we would be fine I gave them 2.5 months to work with. Very little communication for the first month. The second month was very much constant communication. I provided above and beyond what I have ever provided, but they wanted even more. To the point it felt targeted or disorganized. We are a dual military family, and they just couldn't comprehend why my husband and I might be living separately. They asked very invasive questions that really had no place in the home buying process. I have nearly perfect credit, been in the military over 10 years, equity, and was $200k below my preapproved amount. I couldn't always access my computer and they would demand requirements that were either not necessary or they could have obtained using a little common sense. It really felt like they had never worked with Veterans. The night before I was supposed to close, they said they couldn't prove I was a Captain and need an email from my boss before I could close (mind you they have multiple documents proving this) and that this was the ONLY way I could close (I have an O-6 for a commander, they are not always available). I questioned them and the loan coordinator Cortne told me that was federal legislation. That is simply not true. Employment verification may be, but what they were doing was not. They are disorganized at best, and I am honestly surprised I made it to closing. The title company couldn't believe this lender and said they had never had such a poor experience with a lender either. I have actively told multiple Soldiers about this experience, and I don't think this is the same Veteran friendly company USAA is to Soldiers.
Response from Veterans United
Courtney, it is important to us that we work hard to provide excellent service, and we realize that the home buying process can become stressful when working to gather the required documentation. Licensed Underwriters comply with regulations to ensure loans are properly documented, and we work to make that process as easy as possible, though we do understand that it can feel invasive. We also understand how the home buying process can be frustrating, especially when needing further confirmation of information from your employers (even if that employer is the military). As you know, there are regulations that must be met in these situations and we have experience leading customers through the process. Team work is essential to our ability to deliver exceptional service and we have established means to prevent experiences like yours We are committed to finding out what may have caused you to feel this way and to ensure a better experience for future customers. While we cannot change the experience you had we are committed to accountability, exploring ways to improve, and seeking opportunities to continue serving you. Should you wish to share more information regarding this or any other matter, then please do not hesitate to connect with us and our client advocate team.

If you are looking to get a mortgage, I highly recommend Veterans United. They maintained a constant contact with me, informing me how the transaction was progressing and what was needed from me. Tina Wiggins, my loan officer, was so very helpful. She made the entire process run smoothly and pleasantly for me.

would do business with her again

As someone on shift work, they were very accommodating and made the process as smooth as it could be.

If there was anything I'd add, it'd be an intro speech to every first home buyer about the timeline/events. If the loan officer or a representative could key in these events and forewarn the buyer of things happening in the background when they happen. I was at a few time caught off guard with several steps of the process along with some time where it was just radio silence

Very easy process, if you do what they put in your “to do” list in a timely manner, they work very hard to get you in your dream home.
