This was the second VA loan I did through VU, and I wish I would have shopped around a bit more. I went with them because they were great to work with last time since I was overseas, but this time just felt rushed. I wanted to take my time and get thorough inspections and appraisals completed. The VU team I had was very energetic about completing the process and receiving their cut, all the time sending me more and more items to complete in the portal in order to close everything out and sign on the dotted line. I would like to believe that these circumstances were in part due to the restrictions placed in regards to COVID-19; however, when I simply requested to conduct an independent appraisal, it was completely ignored because everyone involved in the process was about to be paid. I love my house and like to believe everyone was working hard to ensure a fair and honest deal, but I don't think I'll be using a VA loan again for quite some time.
