Reconsider the process for selecting appraisors. I had to wait over a month on an appraisal due to either the ineptitude or illness or both of a specific appraisor. My real estate agent said he had never seen so many delays in his career as an agent.
Only issue was to remind me that even though I was taking a loan out in my name only, my husband needed to sign some of the paperwork at closing.
Keep them informed
Try and stay in touch with clients even if there is no new news.
Perhaps better sharing of information between staff.
When paperwork is asked make sure all is asked for and not add more each and everytime. Slows down the closing process.

I would recommend better training for the loan officers in providing them with a vast knowledge of the aspects in which they deal with. For example, taxes and bank accounts. They need to understand the basics of how taxes work in order to submit correct numbers and make the numbers match on their submissions based on what they were given to go off of. In my case, this person was not familiar and therefore pushed back our closing date over a week. Also, pay more attention and make sure things are correct and ask for clarification on any questions to the customer. I explained a certain problem numerous times, yet the problem was still not resolved. Also, please send out the credit check agreement BEFORE you monitor someones credit for over a month and emphasize the fact that inquiring about credit during the closing process will only delay that process. No one ever informed us and we went to buy items for the house and it ended up hurting us.
