After having many issues regarding the closing costs, as well as actual state laws, we were finally able to close on the house, a week late. Ignorance of the law in a specific state is no excuse, and also telling someone their estimated closing costs are one figure, and then having the final closing costs be nearly double is astoundingly terrible. Not to mention the fact that the other loan companies are offering great incentives! Yea, I get $250 for going through VU, but it cost me a TON of frustration, a higher interest rate, and absolutely no other incentives. I really wish I would have done more research and gone with NFCU, and will not be recommending VU in the future. Lastly, I would like to say that my Loan Officer was professional, and did what was asked of him.
It took nearly three months to close on my home loan. VU was asking for documents on the back end of the process that should have been requested on the front end. I felt as is VU was pulling against me acquiring a loan instead of for me. I feel that your company needs to do a better job of communicating and explaining to clients exactly what is going on throughout the process. I became so frustrated with your company that I informed my loan officer to withdraw my loan application, send me a complete copy of my file, and reimburse me for all the expenses I acquired throughout the process. She called me later the same day with a clear to close. No one, especially veterans, should have to go through such a stressful and lengthy process to purchase a home.
Explaining the steps a little more.
I didn't feel treated like a Veteran while going through the approval process. Not particularly by my loan officer , he was great and bent over backwards to help us! But it was the "under writers" that treated us like we were scum of the earth a didn't deserve to have a home! Our loan officer gave us a closing date for about 3 weeks out from the actual day we would be closing and I NEVER FELT ONCE LIKE I WAS ACTUALLY GETTING A HOME UNTIL 2 DAYS PRIOR TO THE CLOSING DATE!!! It felt like someone was messing with us making us jump threw what I thought were ridiculous hoops at times. I understand I didn't have the best credit score and I had some past credit issues but the reason I chose VUHL is because you had posted a letter on your Facebook page saying you could help people like myself. Which ultimately you did but I'm not going to be so grateful that I don't give you an honest survey. VUHL will only get better if people are truthful about their experience and giving you all 10's isn't going to change things, maybe this survey will.
