For the most part, the process was pretty smooth and easy. It only took about three weeks to get approved. Then...
I was told by VU that my wife, who is not on the deed or the mortgage, would have to sign a single doc for the State of Florida. She actually had to sign at least fifteen to twenty docs, everything except the note itself. I was not told there would be a three day waiting period after the signing before the payoff checks were mailed to the creditors, which added another few days to the payoffs.

Overall it was a good experience, super tedious but not too bad for my first time! Definitely would recommend but a different loan specialist.
Great overall experience. One caution...don't expect the underwriters to know everything about your military/retired pay because they may not. I had to explain how allotments work and that the "source" for allotments came from my retirement pay on more than one occasion. Also the "bump" I experienced was trying to get the underwriters to understand that not all creditors are willing to have a final payoff loan amount number...some, like Chase, may not be able to provide that because it is a moving target. Overall, great experience and great results in a timely manner!
