As a Vet I went on line and started the process for a home loan. But when they called me from day one, I felt like they cared about me and appreciated the fact that I did serve my country. We were simply LOOKING at homes. It was a Saturday and we submitted a request for information. Our Loan Specialist contacted us almost immediately and started walking us through the process. He was so helpful and informative, he showed us that we could act on our wishes NOW instead of having to wait for six more months! It was a great experience.

My 3 big concerns were as follows.
#1 As stated above, Mr Grant was very unresponsive at times. This seemed to improve once we placed an offer on a property and it was accepted.
#2 From the onset, Mr Grant was aware that we were looking for a property that we did not have to do any maintenance on. I feel this was communicated fully and upfront. However, after placing a offer on a property we discovered that it wasn't VA approved. This was news to us and we were provided with an address to a VA site which gave the information as to what properties were approved. But I don't understand why this wasn't provided from the very onset. We were looking for no maintenance. I think that statement screams condo or townhome.
#3 Not Mr Grants department on this one. We had a closing date of November 23rd, 2015 from the onset of our offer being accepted on October 7th. That was a total of 47 days. On November 17th our closer started asking for closing costs from Veterans United closing dept and all emails went unanswered. We were driving from Minnesota to Florida, leaving on November 20th, so we needed to do the wire transfer no later than 3:30PM on Thursday the 19th, as our bank is not in Florida. We finally just overestimated the costs and sent the wire transfer. Our time of closing was at 10:30am on the 23rd of November. The final numbers did not come thru until 1:00pm on the 23rd. Fortunately for us, our closing company could accommodate us at a later time and we were able to close that day. Mr Grant was very helpful and contacted the closing department on Friday. We were advised that they had had 4 closings on Friday and just hadn't got to our paperwork. Just what a person loves to hear. The customer was not important enough to meet deadlines. I just don't get the excuse. The date was set 47 days ago. If the person handling it had a heavy workload I can understand delays. What I can't understand is the HUGE lack of communication.
We would be happy to talk to someone about this if you choose. It was a very stressful experience to say the least.
An incentive of $500 was offered to me to accept the "Veterans United" realtor expert...I felt like i sacrificed my service and quality of deal by choosing the Veterans United realtor....it clearly wasnt worth it....My agent wasnt available to me for the last 3-4 weeks of the deal....Once the contract was signed...she didnt seem to have interest in dealing with me...A substitute rep (Cindy) was sent to Crescent City to view the house with me and attend closing...unfortunately she didn't have the paperwork (which should have been provided by the original agent Sharee Charboneau and thus was unprepared to assist me at the closing).
The seller's agent seemed to be completely on her game and was very helpful...I could clearly tell the difference in service.
I was really upset when i was talked into increasing my interest rate (when in actuality it didnt need to be) by Adam Gates....i authorized the increase from 4-4.25% an extra $40 per month because i was told that i couldn't add to the amount in my account. The certified check had to come from my acct. once i increased the interest rate...i was informed it didnt matter where the bank check came from, and by the way i was getting a refund. I didn't want the refund! I wanted the rate, and had sufficient funds to close on the 4% rate....Adam Gates seemed to be be very deceiving with that. I'm not sure if he took instructions from Mr. Staudenmyer or not...but im not thrilled with the results...I clearly felt i needed to be the ass-kisser to ensure this deal went down...and at times felt taken advantage of...i definitely wouldn't use one of the Veterans United real estate "experts" in the future...

Veteran's United did an excellent job overall. I knew where I stood and the follow through was excellent. The process went nearly hitch free, with circumstances outside of VU's control causing the only delays. In a nutshell, I'd highly recommend VU.
The process was quite simple and they have a step by step approach that made it easy. This was not the case with two other mortgages I went through with other lenders. They are great!!!
