I would like to have someone from Veterans United review the policies, procedures and performance of the closing agent McDonnell and Associates.
After signing all closing documents on August 6th and sending them back to V.U. (presumably by Aug. 9th) It is my understanding that the mortgage was "funded" on August 10th (the following Friday). In my follow up with McDonnell, I was led to believe that; A) the disbursement for my existing mortgage lender would be sent upon the loan being funded (August 10th - it was not, and B) Although, I had elected to have my disbursement mailed directly to me, it was also my understanding that the check was mailed upon the loan being funded - It was not.
McDonnell held the funded loan proceeds for three more days before writing either check, sent both checks via FedEx ground - delivered by the end of day... (delaying receipt another three full days.) And, ultimately, sending checks written on a standard bank draft, instead of cashier’s check, certified check or teller check, further delaying use of funds until the check clears another 5 business day.
All of this means that McDonnell is collecting interest on the mortgage funds, nearly 14 days from loan funding.
Additionally, because of the delayed receipt from closing my original mortgage, I have incurred a daily interest of $12.91 or $110. (precisely the same amount McDonnell could make by delay of payment.)

Overall experience with Veterans United was exceptional from the start of the home buying process through closing. The loan team I had was great (Andrea Thames, John Sullivan, Andrew Nelson) and the rest of the team assists through the entire process.
I would also like to commend Lucy Stranz (Veterans United Lighthouse program). She was instrumental in helping me reach my goal of home ownership and getting to the prequalification phase.
I would definitely recommend Veterans United to those desiring to purchase a home. Again, thanks to the entire team that made it possible for me to become a home owner.

I would recommend Veterans United to any veteran or active duty service member looking to purchase a new home or looking to refinance their current home. They are a nation wide organization with years of experience and an amazing staff. Their knowledge of VA loans and military culture really put it minds at ease. They found us a great rate, closed in a fairly reasonable amount of time and even surprised us with a gift bag on the day of our closing. Highly recommended!

My wife and I could not have asked for a better experience! Paul Perez was amazing throughout the process. From start to finish he was constantly providing updates, explanations, and information that made the process smooth. I felt that Paul and his team had my back and guided me through the biggest and most important purchase in our lives. I have zero regrets and I am beyond appreciative to the entire crew at Veterans United San Antonio. It always felt like I was talking with family!

I stumbled upon Veterans United while using Google for a search on a local mortgage lender question. I had some reservations about using an online mortgage lender but I did some research and decided to take a chance with using Veterans United. Veterans United exceeded my expectations. My personal loan specialist, Dave Buchler and his team were great to work with. I had a unique situation that had blocked me from getting a VA loan locally that they were able to resolve. Dave always responded quickly any day of the week to my questions and would check in with me just to see how things were going. He was always cheerful and genuinely cared that my loan process went smoothly, quickly, and was successful. The online experience was a fast, responsive, and an efficient process. We closed the loan I believe in 23 days! I highly recommend Veterans United to veterans seeking a VA loan. My suggestion to veterans who choose Veterans United, is to follow the Veterans United "to do" list process in a timely manner. The faster you get your documentation together and complete each item on the "to do" list, the quicker they can close your loan to your new house. For me, the process was seamless. Thank you Veterans United! I'm enjoying my new home!
