I couldn't ask for a better lender! High fees but I got an excellent service.. Everything was on time, no delays, everyone was very professional... I'm definitely recommending VU to all my veteran friends.

The biggest negative was the endless of requests for information. Multiple times we signed and sent the same information requested (previous home information, residence information, etc). And it was very frustrating to hear the underwriter had a new request the day before closing. Michelle Jones helped push through these hurdles and remained available throughout process if my wife and I had any other questions or concerns.

The initial process was good and I would highly recommend. After waiting on a lien search for 10 business days and having the closing date pushed back, I decided to intervene. Joel had stated he was getting no response from the attorney despite 3 phone calls per day for a week. The following day, in one phone call I had a guarantee from the attorney the lien search would be in that day and a phone call that afternoon confirming. Joel blamed the closing attorney which lead to a heated conversation to try and pass the blame. While I did have the option to hire any attorney I wanted, the attorney we worked with was ultimately recommended by Veteran's United through the realtor they recommended. Based on Joel's comments, I took away that I'd chosen the wrong company to work with if I can't trust the people they recommend.

A few initial problems with the realtor, first was a pushy text message conversation to make any offer on a house. I asked for some more details regarding the electrical service and what was included for appliances and was met with "does that really matter" Finally the realtor told me the service was in fact a 200 amp, but couldn't get an answer on the appliances. After the home inspection, I found out the service is only 100 amp so there goes $2500 to upgrade the breaker panel. While making an offer, I pushed to have the fridge included and Joel with Iowa Realty tried to make me feel dumb for possibly losing the house over a fridge. After the offer was accepted I casually mentioned the fridge was $2200 and matched the other appliances so, YES, it was kind of a big deal.

In the end, I got the house I wanted, although I ended up doing more of the leg work than anticipated.
