The reason for the 9 is that whoever reviewed the receipt for wire transfer of the gift money and reported that it had come from a different bank and a different account number than those detailed in the gift letter did not look closely at the receipt. The header of the receipt had a bank corporation name, but the routing number was for the bank noted in the letter, and the account number was identical to the one in the letter.
