The loan process needs to be streamlined. Too many different people resulted in miscommunication and confusion for us, the buyers. Once a loan officer is designated per customer, it should stay with that person all the way to the end. When a closing date is approaching, the buyer should not find out the day before that a step in the process did not get completed and because of that, the closing date must be moved several days out, indefinitely. But for sure by the last day of the month to meet someone else's deadline. This negatively impacted our lives as we relocated our entire life half way across the country. We were given a very tight closing date to begin with and we managed to meet our end of the deal only to find out that our closing date was pushed further out because one person did not meet their deadline when they had almost 10 days to do it. This ended up costing us, not only monetarily, but, 15 years of our lives from our old home that got disposed of, thrown out. There were other major inconveniences that could've and should've been avoided if the initial closing date were more realistic and management of it was streamlined.
Lastly, we were whisked through signing the closing documents by the title company because it was late on a Friday. She almost left without the closing cashiers check that we went out of our was to obtain. We felt like an imposition at that point.
Basic Consideration for the Buyer/Buyers (Your Veteran Customers) should be a primary factor in the home loan process period. Loan Officers working with Veterans should be 100% familiar with their customer base, be professional and assertive enough to adhere to deadlines. We're not asking for "special treatment" but there are aspects of Veterans lives that are particularly unique from the general public. Especially those of us who've been around for a while. Get to know your Veteran customers a little bit before mopping the floor with us.
On the upshot, there are other parts of Veterans United that are appropriate for first time buyers however, any recommendations for services (movers, utilities, etc..) should be thoroughly researched first. Just because they are recommended by Veteran's United does not mean these companies are accustomed to working with Veterans and have your best interests in mind. Think: They don't and demand the best that fits your needs.
Response from Veterans United
Hi Laura, thank you for providing these details around your loan experience. We are glad that in the end, you were able to obtain home loan financing. Ultimately, it is appropriate to consider how loan approval guidelines are developed and maintained. The discretionary aspects of the loan process can at times provide needed flexibility. It is our goal to provide expert and reliable communication with and between our partners. We would like to learn more about your experience and find out what may have prevented the process from getting off track. We appreciate your perspective and invite you to contact our Client Advocate team directly to continue the conversation.
Veteran United stayed in contact and made the process moved along with great service.
