Find a different bank! I suggest Navy Federal Credit Union. As a member of any branch of the military, you can work with Navy Federal Credit Union. I made the mistake of working with Veterans United. The amount of people calling me from day one was overwhelming. I sometimes wasn't sure who I was supposed to ask certain questions. The loan coordinator did not coordinate very well with the closing agent/title person. I was told my closing cost, then it changed. Then the day of closing it was a lot more than I had been told. Apparently, Veterans United had the numbers wrong. I'm still not sure it's right, but I signed the papers anyhow because I wanted it to be over. The closing documents should have been ready at least 3 days before the planned closing date. Not getting the closing packet to the closing agent until 24 hours before closing was just completely inconsiderate...especially considering that the numbers were wrong and needed to be reworked. When I walked into the office for closing, they still did not have the final paperwork. I had to sign into my account on my phone and there was a document waiting for me to sign before we could move forward with closing. This should have been done days prior. I was moving from a great distance and wanted to do a remote/online closing, but was not able because the paperwork from Veterans United was not done in a timely manner. My overall experience was chaotic and unorganized. I should not have had to pass messages from the lender to the realtor and the closing agent. Someone from VU should have been communicating closely with them to ensure all was completed. This should have been a seamless experience for me. It wasn't.

Response from Veterans United

Hello Patricia, we appreciate your feedback on this matter. We invite you to connect with a member of our Client Advocate team who remains available to discuss your experience further. Discussing the details around your final closing figures is part of our commitment to deliver outstanding service. Veterans United does not directly control the majority of these costs like taxes and insurance, and it is expected that earlier cost estimates will differ from final closing numbers. While Veterans United does not have direct control over the actions or fees while balancing with third party providers, it is important that we work together to promote resolution for you. While we always look to ensure the best experience for our customers, it is important that we focus our efforts on reasonable solutions. We hope that in the end you will enjoy your home for years to come and we apologize for any confusion or missed communications that may have surrounded your closing numbers or experience in total. Our hope is that your home serves you well and we invite you to connect with us for any needs in the future.

Veterans united has been amazing since day one. This was our first time buying a home and we weren't sure who to go with , but so thankful we chose Veterand United Home loans! Our loan officer Jon was fantastic. He helped us tremendously and answered all of our questions and made us feel at ease through the process. We got paired with a realtor, which we didn't know was a part of the veterans united process, and she was absolutely fantastic. The whole homebuying team we got paired with did an amazing job and was very thorough and made sure we were taken care of every step of the way.

I was referred by another Veteran to work with Veterans United. I was a little scared and overwhelmed because for me it was a big purchase. I decided to go with Veterans United because I’m a Veteran and I knew they would be knowledgeable on the information I needed. From beginning to the end every thing ran smoothly. Thank you very much for all your help!!! Now I get to order furniture and sit back and relax. Instead of renting I am now investing in this beautiful home that I can call mine now. I’m a very happy customer 😊

Purchasing a new home in this era was very tedious. The last time we purchased a home I did the required paperwork myself and it only took three days. In todays climate that’s impossible. Perhaps this stems back to the housing debacle when everyone with a job,any job, was qualified to own their own home. At any rate my advice to any prospective homebuyer is to hire a respectable realtor and get a home inspection in addition to the required appraisal.
