Not just Ben, but also Lauren Fritz, were fantastic. When dealing with a remote entity, accessibility is key and both Ben and Lauren were extremely responsive. They were also patient problem solvers. My situation was complex, due to one employer going bankrupt and all my employers being based overseas. Nothing was typical, but the team worked through it all. In fact, they did so 3 times, because there were 2 failed closings (due to exigent circumstances, not VA United) and it was the 3rd that was the charm. But, we started our "journey" with Ben back in early July of 2013 and here we are in December, the happy owners of our newly closed home. So you can see this was not a normal situation.
Even my agent was very impressed and hopes to have the occasion to recommend using Ben and VA United for future customers of hers.

Lynnette and I were only half way through your process when I recommended you to a co-worker. The whole loan process seemed scary easy. You always hear the horror stories, but this adventure wasn't that at all. I would like to thank Jason Zack for his outstanding support and expert knowledge during our home loan process, he was easy to reach and ready to answer our questions when asked. My frustration was with the underwriting process. It seemed that information was asked for several times and when the information was sent it was specific information they were seeking. Example the underwriters asked for proof my escrow check cleared. I sent them the page of my bank statement showing the check clearing, a few days later they said that wasn't good enough they needed all 6 pages of my bank statement. This happened several times with different statements. I think asking for borrowers full bank statements would be the way to go, that way the underwriters could look for what they needed and the process wouldn't log jam. That's it... that's my only gripe. Everything else went great. A life long dream fulfilled. Thank you so very much

I have been trying to secure a loan through VU since April 2012. Randi Mirage was very honest about the process, NEVER mishandled paperwork, and was very prompt. I had to clean some things up and was reengaged with VU in August 2013. Randi cleared me and forwarded me to Bill Musick. Bill explained that based on my file, it will take 6-8 weeks to close. He introduced me to my realtor and I found a home mid-September. By the time I provided the EMD, the bank-owned home wanted closure in 30-days (Oct), but Bill could only commit to 6 Nov. Two extensions later, I closed in escrow on 6 Dec.
CREATIVITY: Bill was awesome with getting the loan to close, just time consuming with poor correspondence with the seller. Even some of the bothersome requests were worth it to save me pain in the future beyond the mortgage process. Thanks Bill.
ISSUES: Bill asked for the same documents twice. Bill would ask Alycea Smith to ask me for documents that I may have sent a week earlier. Bill forgot to order the appraisal. Bill would ask me questions about the bank/realtor INSTEAD of communicating directly with the realtor. When mentioned, Bill asked for his number AGAIN. Bill told me one closing cost, then inflated it because he forgot something in the detail. Later, I learned that he asked the realtor to help with the costs. I had to endure a higher interest rate to maintain my closing cost. BILL NEVER TOLD ME I WAS CLEAR TO CLOSE!!!!! I received a text from my realtor to close the next day. When I questioned Bill, he stated he thought he told me. NEVER HEARD FROM BILL AFTER THE CLOSING? This deal took nearly 4-months.
The only thing I really didn't like about the whole process was being told I need to complete certain thing ASAP and then being told it wasn't needed at all. Other then that all went well and smooth. Thank you to the whole team who were involved.
P.s. Please do not use Wells Fargo to finance my loan.
My first home purchase was through VA and it was a much simpler process and I knew almost from the beginning that I was approved. I did not know that I was officially approved this time until the very end. This was very unnerving and no explanations were given to me as to why. I was spending money on the potential purchase without knowing if I would be approved or not. I got the feeling that this was the design of the process for some unknown reason. I know that nothing will come of my comments as I am only one customer, but if you want better customer feedback, you should think about them. Thanks.
