I chose to work directly with the seller to buy my home, and neither of us used a realtor or a real estate agent. This caused some delays in the process as a real estate agent would likely have anticipated some of the requirements for obtaining a VA loan that neither the seller nor I knew of. Veterans United ensured all the requirements were met, but I recommend using a realtor as well, just to make the process go smoother. The money I saved on realtor commissions was offset by the delays and my own inexperience in this process. It took much longer than had I used a real estate agent.
As I mentioned before, I couldn't be happier with what my wife and I just experienced in purchasing a new home. I was quite surprised at the time our loan specialist, Stephen Erickson, gave us. His advice, guidance, and encouragement was very timely and needed. I would highly recommend anyone purchasing a home to use the VA and in particular Stephen Erickson. I would like to add that my daughter and son-in-law also recently purchased a home and used the VA. My daughter was very happy with their service and recommended using her loan specialist (name unknown). Though I'm sure there are many good ones, I think we were very fortunate to have ours! Thank you VA and especially Stephen!

I started out with someone who was not a good fit as a lender. He was rude and condescending and gave me the impression he didn't want to work with me. As soon as I brought this up, my lender was changed to Vishal Patel. He was great and made me forget the rocky experience. That showed me it wasn't a company mentality but a personal one with the other guy. I am so happy with the results and will recommend VU to anyone I can.
Always willing and able to provide answers to questions, just keep in mind that you do have to ask!

Dan Hopkins and his team including Bri Stephenson were wonderful to work with. They were always available to discuss how our loan was proceeding through the system, what they needed from us and how to work through some issues that arose. Veterans United has a great processing system that allows the borrowers to go to their website and check how things are going. We had our documents to review as they became available online with no delays. First American Title was pro-active in contacting us for what they needed and from what I understand, the title co., the appraiser, the surveying co. and Veterans United collaborated to ensure a quick closing. Our closing was the easiest we have experienced. The closing figures were provided to us several days before closing as required and nothing needed to be changed.My wife was in the mortgage business for many years and she was very impressed with the professionalism, the depth of knowledge and the desire to ensure their borrowers have as easy and pleasant experience as possible. We would both strongly recommend Veterans United as the company to go through to obtain VA financing.
